Description
The 5-String Clifford Essex C.E special is a rare and desirable vintage open back banjo. We think it was probably made by Rever in the 1910s.
Clifford Essex was a banjo player who started selling banjos in 1893. His banjos such as this one feature exceptional attention to detail, he specialises in hand-carved necks, intricate mother-of-pearl inlays, and highly decorative block-built wooden rims.
This banjo has a lovely woody tone and plays really beautifully. The nickel plating is superb, it has original hardware (hooks and shoes), tuners, oak rim and a spun over hoop in nickel plated brass.
The luthier Kieth Stephen straightened the maple neck, levelled the fretboard and refretted (21). He also cut a new bone nut, added a new bridge and a new Remo renaissance head!! What a beauty!!
This banjo is vintage and pre-loved with some signs of wear, as shown in pictures, but overall is in fabulous condition.
