Matsumoku Prototype L5 Style Jazz Archtop.

Do not be fooled by the ‘Encore’ label on this guitar. It is an incredibly rare and collectable, high end instrument, made to showcase the talents of the master luthiers from the famed Matsumoku factory in Japan in the 1970’s.During this period  the Matsumoku makers were at the height of their skills. To demonstrate their abilities they made a limited run of these L5 style jazz arch tops , thought between 5 to 10 in total. They were not made for general release ,but as examples of the quality of the Matsumoku luthiers work to show to dealers , and spread the good name of the Mastumoku factory in the world of Guitar production!

These very few Matsumoku Prototype L5 style Jazz archtop guitars were made with the finest tone woods , using advanced construction techniques , and were then hand finished by the luthiers. The top back and sides are all made of the finest grade of laminated Maple , with a pressed and sculpted back, with multiply binding . It has a set Maple neck, and Ebony fingerboard with expertly inlaid Abalone and Pearl inlay .

The body follows the classic L5 style proportions, with a 16″ lower bout , and full 3.5″ body depth. The factory fitted Maxon humbuckers are legendary pickups in themselves and the sound they produce does not disappoint! Combined with the full depth of the body the notes this guitar produces have a luscious, luminous resonant tone, with rich, beautifully balanced bass, mids and treble sounds and serious sustain!

It has been lovingly set up by our founding Luthier Andrew Mills ands it plays like an absolute dream with lovely low action.

This guitar has had a life since the 70’s and has some scratching and marks mostly on the back and sides, and this is reflected in the asking price.

It’s a stunning  guitar come and give it a try !If you are unfamiliar with the work of the Japanesde Matumoku Luthiers , now is your chance to experience their skills and if you are already a Matsumoku fan , this is a must have for your collection as they as rare as hens teeth!
